Understanding Your FIBROSCAN Results

The information below describes the FibroScan results in more detail, including how your doctor uses your results to determine:

1. Your degree of fatty change (Steatosis grade) using the CAP score.

2. Your degree of scarring/stiffness of liver (Fibrosis score) using your kPa score.

About Your CAP Score
Your CAP score is a measurement of fatty change in your liver. Your doctor  will use your CAP score to determine the amount of fat that may be present in your liver, this is called the  steatosis grade. It ranges from 100 to 400 dB/m. The table below shows ranges of CAP scores and the matching steatosis grade and amount of liver with fatty change.

About Your Fibrosis Result
Your fibrosis result (kPa) is a measurement of the amount of scarring in your liver. A FibroScan measures elasticity by measuring the stiffness/scarring of your liver.
Normal results are seen between 2 and 6 kPa. The highest possible result is 75 kPa.

The table below shows ranges of fibrosis scores in Kpa and the matching fibrosis grades and the amount of liver scarring.
